Heights Park is located on four contiguous lots at 1914-20 Alexander Ave., Arabi LA. The main focus of the park is a 109’ vintage bridge that will span the 40 Arpent Canal giving visitors a chance to walk across and view Bayou Bienvenue. The bridge will make way for a walking/ bike path that will follow the levee and end at the 40 Arpent Observatory at Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette.
Another focal point is the observation deck that will be the end point for the paddle boats from the 40 Arpent Observatory. Additional features will include rain garden, gazebo, fountain and mini fruit orchard.
This will be the first park in a series of neighborhood parks to be developed throughout St. Bernard Parish using properties allocated for public use by parish government. The communal spaces will contribute greatly to each and every neighborhood identity, thereby creating a more connected and integrated community.
