If the local cuisine has you feeling inspired, the Delacroix Seafood market is a bi-annual event that connects the public with the local fishing community and provides an array of fresh ‘catches’ right from the docks!
Additionally, the Aycock Barn in Arabi offers a variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables for farm-to-table freshness during its various market days. These local markets truly define ‘community’ in St. Bernard!
The new 14-mile Mississippi River Levee Trail, the 26-mile 40 Arpent Trail and 15 miles of other bikeways will soon link people to the major regional trails in the area. In addition, St. Bernard is constructing 97 miles of on-street bikeways.
There’s an array of excellent private and catholic schools as well and multiple outlets for adult education. The Maumus Center, the first High School ever in the parish, now serves as a learning center for all ages featuring a Planetarium, a Food Science lab, Theatre and exhibit rooms!
We are also proud to have Nunez Community College in St. Bernard Parish, offering technical programs such as Aerospace Manufacturing Technology and Coastal Science and GIS Technology.
Spanish colonists from the Canary Islands (Los Islenos) arrived in St. Bernard in the late 18th Century. Today their story is told in a fascinating museum & village as well as an annual festival! St. Bernard was also home to the final conflict of the War of 1812. The Chalmette Battlefield and Historic Park offers free, guided tours and a must-see battle re-enactment each year. From Historic Old Arabi and its nationally-recognized colorful ‘Shotgun’ homes to Plantations & ruins- the Past is always Present here!

Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, you’ll experience some of the best angling in the Gulf South! There are plenty of Guides or ‘Captains’ as we call them to help out and plenty of cabins (or camps) so you can stay right on the water.
There’s also plenty of great duck hunting opportunities. And for those who like water activities like kayaking-Lake Borne is the perfect place to enjoy fun on the water or simply relax and take in the scenery from shore!
Just minutes from St Bernard, the historic French Quarter features famous landmarks like St. Louis Cathedral & Jackson Square, museums like the Cabildo and scores of highly-acclaimed restaurants, nightclubs and historic buildings. Nearby is Frenchman Street with its eclectic mix of Jazz clubs, eateries and even a bustling Arts Market. The neighboring Marigny and Bywater districts are full of trendy shops, coffee houses and nightlife as well as picturesque New Orleans-style homes.
Just a few more minutes drive and you can experience world-class sporting events at the New Orleans Superdome, home to the 2009 Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints and the Smoothie King Center- home to the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans. Both venues also feature award-winning shows & concerts throughout the year.
Only a few minutes upriver from downtown, you can visit the famed Audubon Park with its majestic oaks, acclaimed golf course and riding stables. Don’t forget the incomparable Audubon Zoo – where they all ask for you! And a visit to New Orleans City Park is a must-see and do. There you’ll find the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Children’s Museum, Sculpture Garden, City Park Golf Course, world-renowned Cafe du Monde and so much more!
It takes just an hour to get to the Beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast which features a host of casinos, exciting shows, restaurants, beaches and historic homes.
Various State Parks in Mississippi and Louisiana offer adventure for the entire family! See the great Louisiana outdoors from the Atchafalaya Basin to the Fairview State Park in Madisonville. Many Louisiana State Parks are located on scenic lakes and offer cabins, camping, fishing, boating, nature trails and some of the most beautiful landscape around. There are also numerous historic parks and places to explore like the Creole Nature Trial- a series of interconnected roads running along the Gulf Coast through the wetlands south of Lake Charles, showcasing over 100 miles of historical Cajun architecture, parks, fishing spots and beaches that are waiting to be discovered!
