Discover the new St. Bernard
These lots are former Louisiana Land Trust properties that remained when the State’s Road Home program ended some ten years after Hurricane Katrina. With the closing of the Mississippi River – Gulf Outlet Canal (MR GO) in 2009, the idea of purchasing a home in this region comes with less risk. When combined with the fact that after Katrina, a 22-mile levee system was built around St. Bernard, the idea makes even that much more sense.
With Parish support and guidance, builders are helping to bring back whole streets and neighborhoods through the unique Sold on St. Bernard program. This special program offers tremendous value and savings for homebuyers!
Moving forward, we are looking forward to seeing the homes be built on the lots sold through these programs. If you have a question about a property in St. Bernard Parish,CLICK HERE for a parcel map of St. Bernard Parish that includes the following layers: zoning, piling areas, and flood zones.
Our select builders have acquired ‘bundles’ of lots at bargain prices allowing them to focus their efforts on building quality homes. The builders are allowed to spread out the construction of the homes within their bundles over a multiple year time span. This will allow for the redevelopment of whole neighborhoods at a pace the market can handle with the ultimate goal of creating a thriving community.
The builders selected to participate in this unique program bring their own style and flair to the construction & design of their homes. They were selected because of their sound building practices and quality of construction. The Department of Community Development added its own standards in order to ensure exceptional quality and style. The program promotes traditional regional housing types such as cottages, shotguns, center hall homes, and farmhouses. However, no specific style is required and often the end product is a pleasing blend!
To date, there have been 8 different iterations of the Builder Bundle program. While the program started solely in Arabi, it expanded to different parts of the parish, including Chalmette, Meraux, and Violet. In some instances, the program has facilitated the revitalization of an entire block.

Sold on St. Bernard was able to offer the Buy and Build program to the residents of St. Bernard Parish from 2017 to 2020. During that time, individuals were able to pick up single lots from the parish at fair market appraised value. Over 300 individual lots were sold through the Buy and Build program, making a considerable difference in the landscape of neighborhoods.
The Department of Community Development also participated in the Lot Next Door program through which already existing property owners were able to purchase the adjacent property at a discount. We hope that this program made many dog-running, kid-running, pool-filled, she-shed dreams come true.
